2016 Altar Society "Woman Of The Year"
Gay Lynn Moneymaker!
St. Joseph Altar Society gives a "Woman of the Year" award each Mother's Day. This Mother's Day, Sue Muller, the president of the Altar Society
announced the 2016 honoree, Gay Lynn Moneymaker!
This Woman of the year is a SUPER Volunteer, someone, who at times in her life has had less, but always given more, someone who’s heart is always in it, someone who works tirelessly to make dreams come true for others.
Our honoree was born in Wyoming and transplanted to Chehalis in 1994. Immediately she and her entire family became actively involved in St Joseph Church and St Joseph School. She was a St Joes’ volunteer. . . in the classrooms, on the playground, in the lunchroom, where ever help was needed. In 2000 she was hired as a part time Educational Assistant at the school and in 2003 went “full time”. She started the Box Tops for Education program at the school to help raise funds for the reading program; continued St. Barbara’s Box tops, Campbell Soup Labels and aluminum can drives after Sr. Barbara retired to Seattle. She has maintained the SUCCESS database for the past ten years and has been present at every SUCCESS phonathon since 1998, She was a St Joes Parents Club Treasurer and Secretary, was instrumental in organizing the first of the current St. Joseph School auctions and has volunteered and organized countless spaghetti feeds and Cana dinners in years past.
As a mother to 3 girls she has spent countless hours working on scout projects, 4H projects, youth fair projects, she even assisted her oldest daughter in crafting a duct tape prom dress. She has spent countless hours on the sidelines at fast pitch and basketball games, tennis and soccer matches. She is an easy target for countless St Joes kids who have asked her to purchase, candy, wreaths, popcorn, raffle tickets and so much more.
Her Christian light shines bright in many students from St Joes as their Godmother and Confirmation sponsor.
While raising family, this lady has been active in many local youth, family and charitable organizations in the community, many time’s roped into leadership roles because friends could count on her for just about any task, Pope’s Kids Place, Boy Scouts, Chehalis-Centralia Steam Train, Soroptimist, National Day of Service, the Chehalis Soccer Club, Chehalis Girl’s Fast pitch Association, and the WF West Class of 2007 and 2011 Parents Club appreciated hundreds of hours of service.
None of her children could be here today. Eldest daughter Melissa, a graduate of St Joseph school, WF West High School and the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising is currently employed at Disney World in Orlando Florida and packing for a Disney cruise to Ireland where she will be married in a couple of weeks. Our Woman of the year is also packed and ready to go along. Her daughter Hailey, a St Joes, WF West and Western Washington University grad is currently teaching in South Korea, and I understand she is packed for Ireland as well, and Hailey’s twin sister Emily could not be here today either as she is graduating this weekend from WSU with a Master’s in Architecture and a minor in Construction Management.
This woman of the year has been a Eucharist Minister since 1999 and a Sacristan since 2010, she supports St. Vincent de Paul and so much more in our parish. In 2007, she was hired as our Pastoral Assistant for Administration.
Now please join me in acknowledging our 2016 Woman of the Year, a woman with a heart of gold, Gay Lynn Moneymaker.
A reception to honor Gay Lynn was in the parish center immediately following Mass.
